I’ve always wanted to visit the towns on the Pingxi Line and we finally managed to do so on this trip!
We took a train from Taipei to Ruifang and then transferred to the Pingxi Line. The journey to the final station, Jingtong, was about 40mins and we got a seat at the rear end of the train! It was a cosy corner and we could look through the windows at the back.
Then, we thought of going to the front end and while doing so, a team carrying microphones and cameras passed us and situated themselves at the rear of the train. I’m not sure what they were shooting but later in the day, we saw them at Pingxi.

Reached Jingtong station at 9:30am.

The design on the train is cute!

The Railway Story House at the station, that sells souvenirs such as wooden postcards.

The wishing hut near the station where people write wishes on the bamboos and hang them here.

This is the street directly behind the train station. I thought there would be more people visiting the place but as you can see, the place was empty and quiet. Most of the shops were closed and we felt that there was nothing much to explore.
It might be better to visit on a weekend – sometimes, crowds enliven the place and you’ll get a different ambiance that amounts to a pleasant experience.

Along the streets, there were plates like these embedded in the ground depicting events that happened in that particular year.

Came across this which I thought was quite cool – mosiac-ed with the words Jingtong Railway Station.

At the end of the old street of Jingtong, there was a junction with a sculpture depicting coal miners.

And, that was all that we saw at Jingtong! Why did my visit seem so boring compared to what I had read?!
You can’t tell from the pictures but it was a really hot and sunny day! At the end of visiting Jingtong, our clothes were soaked through with perspiration.
In this kind of weather, we end up with 90% pictures of sights without any one of us in it! I take my hat off to people who can pose prettily for photos despite hot weather conditions~
