Our return flight was scheduled to depart from Vienna at 15:30 on Saturday but due to the closure of airspace, we are still in Vienna. (Luckily) I happened to come across the news about the volcanic ash from Ireland disrupting flights around Europe on Friday via someones’s facebook status, and after looking up the news, we realised this is huge!
We were hoping our flight could still depart but got an sms alert at 4am that it was canceled.
So, on Saturday, we were debating whether to switch hostels and which one to stay. The one we stayed at was ok but could be better – our room was on the 1st floor and there was many ants and we had a spider too! Anyway, we are lucky to find a private room (ensuite facilities too!) when we walked in to ask at Wombats which was around the corner of our original hostel. Although it is more expensive at 29euros per person per night, we decided to stay here.
Great place except the wifi is only available in the lobby but the lobby is pretty big. We extended for another night after finding out that the austrian airspace is still closed for Sunday. So, it’s been 2 extra nights and counting…
Vienna has nothing much of interest so we are mostly lounging around the lobby (for WiFi and TV) or watching downloaded videos in our room. It also sucks that I’m having a sore throat since Fri – I think I ate too many chocolates and became too heaty. Took some medicine and drinking lots of water…
G just saw some news that the Austrian airspace might be open at 6am on Monday! We have not extended our stay at the hostel yet – hoping things might change tomorrow and we can leave.
