Japan Trip: Day 9, part 1 (22 Nov 2009)
(continuation of last year’s trip to Japan)
The day started early for us (again!) and we set off to visit Miyajima.
We had to take a train to Hiroshima and then change to the JR Sanyo Line to get to Miyajimaguchi. From there, we had to take a ferry to get to the island. I had seen many cool pictures of the famed floating torii gate and was looking forward to it.
On the ferry, we got our first glimpses of the torii and everyone on board was excited as the ferry sailed towards the island.
It was high-tide during that time and there it was…”floating” as opposed to the “beached” look if it were low-tide. We didn’t actually enter the shrine and only took the pictures from along the walkway. There are also boats to bring visitors up close to the torii.
